SUPPORTERS of former prime minister Najib Razak have launched a donation drive to pay for his bail.

A group calling itself “Solidariti Bersama Datuk Najib” is led by former Umno federal territories youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii, and aims to collect RM500,000 to pay the rest of Najib’s bail.

“This fund is launched to aid the finances of Najib, for him to pay the bail and legal fees,” he said in a statement today.

Razlan said the former Umno president needed financial aid because the family’s accounts have been frozen.

The Umno man said donations will be collected only until Monday, the day Najib needs to pay the rest of his bail.

The collected funds will be handed over in court to a family representative.

“This fund will only be opened till Monday at 12pm. The handing over would be done to Najib’s representative in court,” he said.

Najib, 64, was charged yesterday with misusing his position as a government official to receive a RM42 million bribe as inducement to provide a sovereign guarantee on behalf of the Malaysian government for a RM4 billion loan from the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

The High Court set bail at RM1 million, and ordered Najib to surrender his passports.

The bail was to be paid in two payments, RM500,000 yesterday and on Monday.

The court tentatively set the trial to begin in February next year, which will last about 19 days.

It is unclear how much the former PM will be paying his legal team, which is led by prominent lawyer Shafee Abdullah.

Najib, who fell from power after Barisan Nasional lost the May 9 general election, also faces three counts of criminal breach of trust in his capacity as prime minister, finance minister and SRC International adviser emeritus.

SRC International was formerly a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd, the brainchild of Najib.

Najib had previously admitted to receiving RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts, which he said were donations from an Arab prince. – July 5, 2018.

  • Will I collect money to help someone who has all the things worth RM1 billion found at the condos in Pavilion. My answer is a big NO. As a Muslim for guidance I will point at the Holy Koran Chapter 4, Surah Al Nisa Verse 85..

  • I'm sure there are people out there who owe Najib big time. Where are they now? It's only half a million, petty cash to them.

    • Don't have to look very far. They can start with his lawyer, Shafee. It was reported that he was allegedly paid 9M for his "services". I'm sure there are plenty of spare change and leftovers.

  • Bangang bangang umno sekalian. Najis is rich enough to bail himself and his whole clan out. Apart from those found by the police, I am certain that maggot has more money hidden elsewhere. All this hoodwink of not being able to raise 1mill is bullshit. The whole family now wants to put up a pathetic sympathy seeking show. Bunch of luxury whores who lived a high might life, and finally gotta face reality and now they wanna fake their crocodile tears. And umno being umno, will always remain stupid.

  • Najib claimed only recently that his in laws are people of means and can secure a few Birkins at any given time. Since they think nothing of giving such expensive gifts to Najib so as to full up his house according to him, surely a few hundred thousand ringgit is a pittance to them especially in times of dire need like this?

  • More wayang from Najib. Hey dudes, he has so many "donated" luxuries that can be easily sold off to obtain the required amount and you dudes are nobody to him. So, these fundraiser dudes are just wasting their time...

  • Isn't the Razak clan embarrassed? The family should stop these fools from making a mockery of Najib's family and relatives. God lord, what are they even thinking?

    • These fools may think it's a wonderful PR ploy to gain sympathy & support for Najib. But many Malaysians ain't stupid to fall for their ploy, right?

  • Haha I think all those who remain in UMNO now are the grandsons and granddaughters of Pak Pandir lah

  • What about the rich in-laws. He said so. All the expensive gifts. Considering the value of the gifts, the one million ringgit bail is just a pittance.
