NAJIB Razak’s arrest today comes more than five weeks since he was last questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.
The probe, spearheaded by the 1MDB special task force, had led to more than 400 bank accounts worth RM1.1 billion being frozen and millions of ringgit in cash and valuables seized from premises linked to the former prime minister.
The MACC has recorded the statements of Najib, his wife Rosmah Mansor and his stepson Riza Aziz.
Najib’s former deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was also questioned yesterday and today.

Investigations into 1MDB commenced almost immediately after PH’s win at the May 9 polls.
Najib has been questioned three times – once in December 2015, and twice in May this year – over his role in SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1MDB which was later absorbed into the finance ministry. – July 3, 2018.
