I'm partly to blame for GE14 loss, says Najib

FORMER Umno president Najib Razak has taken responsibility for the party’s failures in the 14th general election, admitting he was partly at fault for the devastating loss.

He said these failures were why he had resigned as Umno president, despite shortcomings at every level of the party.

“Yes, our rivals made plenty of false promises but we, too, had our own weaknesses. While I accepted the moral responsibility for our loss by resigning, there were shortcomings at every level of the party.

“I took responsibility, but others stayed quiet. But it’s ok, they don’t have to resign from their posts. If everyone did that, where would the party be? So let me be the one to resign. Others must help correct the situation,” the former prime minister said at the opening the Pekan Umno division meeting today.

He also urged Umno members to return to the pillars of Umno’s struggle.

“We have to change our values, attitude and approach to be respected by the people once again.

“It is time to change. We have to choose the best leaders for the party now and not because of (other) benefits.”

He also said that it was time to leave the toxic practice of money politics behind.

“We know that our glory days are over. We lost in the general election even though we spent so much.

“There were those who sulked when they didn’t get allocations. There were those who did get money but said they didn’t. Then, there were candidates who received allocations but did not spend it.

“How are we supposed to win when our attitude is like that?” – June 30, 2018.

  • Even at this crucial juncture, he cannot find it in his heart to take complete responsibility for Umno's current sorry state. It speaks of a lifetime of pure selfishness, passing the buck and digging other's graves. Thank God we're finally rid of him.

  • Najib IS only partly to be blamed for the loss - the rest belong to UMNO itself. 20 years of data shows that UMNO was heading there, not just Najib's time. Najib just hasten the process. THAT is why UMNO is in danger of sefl-destruct now because they cannot admit it and blame only Najib.

  • What you said was an understatement. In fact, you have almost everything to do with Umno's loss n the break up of BN. Your 1MDB stands out as a sore thumb

  • Najib you speak with forked tongue. Rubbish !!!!. A tainted guy like you knows no moral conduct to have any remorse to act with moral responsibility. Very norm when one is apprehended red handedly the tendency is to draw on sympathy for lesser convictions. Its a play act where prior actions were done with crystal clear rationale and intense sanity. Saying sorry after that does mean anything when the damages are set and done. We view with total disdain on your pathetic display of character using the compass of moral responsibility when there are zero value in you on the sanctitude of humanity and humility. Oh please shut up!!!!!!!! Go and hang yourself if the the government are in slow progress and dilly dallying on your convictions. At least that would be a moral action that we respect for you for that.
