Umno not only party to have bank accounts frozen, says 1MDB task force

THE 1MDB task force has frozen the bank accounts of several political parties, including Umno.

The investigating task force said in a statement today it had also frozen the accounts of individuals linked to the 1MDB scandal.

“The 1MDB task force confirms freezing several accounts, including Umno’s, that are believed to be involved in the 1MDB corruption,” the statement read.

Associate and company accounts were among those frozen, it said.

The task force asked for space to carry out its duties, saying investigations would be fairly and professionally conducted in accordance with the law.

It urged the public not to speculate on the case as it could jeopardise investigations.

The statement was signed by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed, current MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdullah and Federal police Special Branch director Abdul Hamid Bador.

Umno acting president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told reporters in Johor yesterday that Umno’s accounts had been frozen by the MACC.

  • Najib said that it is not illegal to collect gifts. So the accounts holders who received gift from Najib which Najib would be happy to confirm would be free to receive them, particularly from the YAB PM. Najib forgets that gifts received by him are for the government. It is not illegal to receive them, but it is a crime to keep them. Looks like Najib kept them as if they were for him personally. If he received them in his personal capacity, then it was bribery.

  • Once the tap is shut (close) - we will see more umno members jump ship to seek greener pasture. My guess is that they will jump to PKR or Bersatu - where they can continue with the 3R - Recycle, Rob, Rape (not Religion, Race & Ruler). It is the same Baba (thieves) serving Ali (Mahatir or Anwar)
