NAJIB Razak is in Langkawi to play golf and not to use the island as a staging post to exit the country, said Kedah Police chief Zainal Abidin Kasim.

Zainal said the former prime minister and his wife Rosmah Mansor are banned from leaving the country.

“He arrived in Langkawi with his family for a holiday and had met with the former Kedah menteri besar (Ahmad Bashah Mohd Hanipah) and a number of other leaders.

“It was a routine meeting and he had already been playing golf on the island for two days,” he was quoted as saying Bernama.

It has quashed social media speculation that the couple were planning to flee from Langkawi to Thailand.

He said the public should refrain from circulating such rumours as it would create unease in public.

Speculation about the couple intensified in social media after they were spotted at KLIA on Saturday.

Subsequently photographs on Facebook showed the couple at a luxury resort in Langkawi.

Putrajaya slapped a travel ban on Najib as he is being investigated for the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad corruption scandal. – June 18, 2018.
