BUKIT Bintang Bersatu Youth chief Mohd Noorhisyam Abd Karim is out to clear his name from accusations that he had tried to make money off traders seeking lots at a Ramadan bazaar.
Noorhisyam lodged a police report asking for the claims to be investigated at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 1.30pm today, Malaysiakini reports.
“This is so that my name is cleared, along with Bersatu and also Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun’s name,” he said in his report according to the news portal.
Fong had issued a support letter which Noorhisyam showed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) after it initially refused his request for 80 lots.
DBKL approved his request because of Fong’s letter, after which complaints emerged that he had rented out 80 lots along Jalan Masjid India for as high as RM5,000 each.
Noorhisyam said he wanted the police to investigate the parties, which included the media, that had accused him of scalping traders.
Others who have lodged police reports are Bukit Bintang Bersatu Youth secretary Abdul Razak Zabir and information chief Azrul Feisal Abdullah to clear themselves from alleged involvement in the matter.
Fong has also said he intends to lodge his own report once he returns from overseas.
The use of support letters, however, has been criticised by Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman who recently called for the practice to end.
Syed Saddiq has said he would lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission soon. – June 18, 2018.
