BERSATU Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman called for police and the anti-graft authorities to investigate a party member’s alleged abuse of Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) lot rental system for the Masjid India Ramadan Bazaar.

“If there are elements of bribery and abuse of power, I ask that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and police investigate the matter,” he tweeted, tagging their Twitter handles.

Bukit Bintang Bersatu Youth chief Mohd Noorhisyam Abdul Karim allegedly used political connections to secure and rent 80 lots at the bazaar out for as high as RM5,000 each.

The matter came to light after complaints were made, and when DBKL Licensing and Petty Traders Development Department director Anwar Mohd Zain told the Star he was “forced to approve” Noorhisyam’s application after initially telling him no more lots were available.

DBKL gave in after Noorhisyam’s relentless “pestering” and a support letter by Bukit Bintang lawmaker Fong Kui Lun.

In the end, DBKL gave Noorhisyam a place in the bazaar, although there was no more space for actual lots, and told him to obtain cooperation from shop owners in the area.

Bukit Bintang Bersatu chief Zailani Isausuludin said he would lodge a report with MACC.

Noorhisyam, however, denied taking money from bazaar traders and told Malaysiakini he would lodge a police matter on the allegations against him.

Syahredzan Johan, the political secretary to DAP’s Lim Kit Siang, also called for the matter to be investigated and for action to be taken, even if it involved a Pakatan Harapan party member.

“We cannot have any tolerance for corruption, regardless of the party that did it,” he tweeted. – June 15, 2018.
