BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan has called on the US Justice Department (DoJ) to name the complainants in its civil suit against state investor fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

“The DoJ should reveal their identities immediately so Malaysians will quickly realise how deeply embedded the complainants are within the opposition parties’ agenda to topple the Prime Minister and the democratically elected Government of Malaysia,” Rahman said in a statement today.

Rahman, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said the DoJ’s suit was “clearly” triggered by complaints by individuals with a “heinous political agenda” against Prime Minister Najib Razak and his administration.

“1MDB is not a party to the DoJ civil lawsuit. In fact, the assets that the DoJ alleges were wrongfully procured and seeks to seize were in fact purchased by entities that are not legally owned or controlled by 1MDB,” he said.

Rahman said that the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has already found no evidence that money has been misappropriated from 1MDB.

“More importantly, the allegations made by the DoJ must first be proven in a court of law before they can be accepted as fact,” he said.

On Thursday, the DoJ filed a civil action to begin seizing assets worth US$540 million (RM2.3 billion), believed to have been purchased using money siphoned from 1MDB.

DoJ’s latest suit, its third since last year, brings the total amount allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB to US$4.5 billion. – June 18, 2017.
