INDONESIAN police have agreed to work with Malaysian authorities to track down Umno leader Jamal Md Yunos and return him to the country to face justice, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The home minister said police requested assistance from their Indonesian counterparts after Jamal fled Malaysia last week. He is believed to be in Indonesia.

“If possible, we would arrest (Jamal) today. But there are processes and procedures,” said Muhyiddin.

“They’ve told me that they have informed Indonesian police about the matter, and have requested cooperation.

“I hope they (Indonesian police) will cooperate with us, to ensure that those responsible will be brought to justice,” he said after a two-hour meeting with police at Bukit Aman today.

On Wednesday, Jamal failed to show up at the Ampang police headquarters, where he was to have his statement taken after he was detained for being in possession of a firearm.

He later appeared in a video, requesting that Muhyiddin, as home minister, give an assurance that he will not be “persecuted” if he surrenders.

Selangor police have announced that they have applied for an arrest warrant for Jamal after he refused to cooperate in the investigations.

Muhyiddin today said the authorities are tracking the whereabouts of former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, who has also left the country.

“He (Musa) is among those sought. There was a police report lodged against (him over) what happened in Sabah.

“Police will try to find out where he is and bring him back to face justice.”

Musa is the subject of investigations after he allegedly intimidated Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Juhar Mahiruddin in the state’s chief minister crisis following the 14th general election. – June 4, 2018.
