T. NHAVEEN may have just died last evening but there are already people trying to take advantage of his death and his family’s grief by soliciting donations.

The teen’s uncle R. Thiyagarajan, 50, told reporters that someone had used Nhaveen’s name to ask for donations.

He said the text message asking for donations in Nhaveen’s name had been going around. There was also a bank account number in the message.

“The family never initiated any requests for donations.

“We don’t want people to take advantage of the situation. Please don’t use his name,” he told reporters outside the Penang Hospital mortuary last night.

Nhaveen died at 5.31pm yesterday, six days after he fell into a coma.

He was allegedly assaulted by a group of boys last Friday night and by the time he was sent to the hospital, he was already unconscious. Doctors also found injuries to his private parts.

His death came as a blow to his family, as they continued to hope he would recover.

“We ask for prayers for his soul to be in peace,” Thiyagarajan said.

He added that the family hoped for justice now.

“We don’t know much about legal matters. Let the law takes its course.” – June 16, 2017.
