THE spat between Annuar Musa and Wee Ka Siong must stop immediately, declared Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
The de facto Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said both the key component parties within the coalition must stick together and continue on the same platform.
“There is no need to point fingers among leaders. Both leaders must be united in mobilizing to become an effective opposition,” said Zahid in a statement today.
MCA’s Wee, a former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, seldom spoke openly on what transpired at cabinet meetings as the party was bound by the oath of secrecy and the Barisan Nasional spirit of cooperation.
Wee said this had led to the perception that MCA did not speak up on issues or had done anything for the Chinese community.
The Ayer Hitam MP said BN has ceased to exist except in name and that as an opposition party, MCA is no longer obliged to side with Umno.
Annuar, who is Umno information chief, then responded by calling Wee an ingrate.
“(Wee) reportedly said the era of MCA carrying Umno’s mistakes is over.
“I also would like to say that the era Umno would put up with a crippled MCA is also long over,” said Annuar in a statement.
He said Umno has continued to support MCA even after the ethnic Chinese party suffered its worst electoral defeat in 2013, winning only seven parliamentary seats and 11 state seats.
MCA did worse on May 9, with Wee winning the party’s sole federal seat by 303 votes and two state seats.
“Not only did MCA fail to woo the people, it also failed to capture the hearts of its own party members.
“MCA failed to identify their supporters and machinery even until the last minute,” Annuar said.
“MCA should prepare to buy their own tombstone. Sorry my friend Wee… please never try to take us for granted!!!” he said. – June 3, 2018.
