POLICE will be seeking help from their counterpart in Indonesia to trace Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos, who is said to have escaped to that country, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

Muhyiddin also dismissed Jamal’s plea for protection from those whom he alleged had used the police to get him.

“How to protect? He knows he is in the wrong, then he fled. I have asked the inspector-general of police to hunt him down.

“I heard he is in Indonesia and we will seek their help to find him,” said Muhyiddin after tarawih prayers at the Kajang Prison mosque tonight.

Jamal, who became a wanted man after jumping bail, failed to turn up at the Ampang police station yesterday despite earlier assuring police that he will turn up to have his statement recorded.

He is being investigated for nine cases.

In a video released to the media on the same day, Jamal said he did not reject the process of law but felt that he was being unfairly treated and there were hidden hands and the powerful using the police to get him.

He had also sought an assurance from Muhyiddin that he will not be victimised if he surrendered.

Jamal’s failure to keep his promise prompted Selangor police to issue a statement that they will seek a warrant of arrest against him. – May 31, 2018.
