IT has taken Idris Jala, the troubleshooter for Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office, exactly one week to gather all the facts for submission to Putrajaya.
Prime Minister Najib Razak told The Star Online that Idris, who is formerly a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, was ready to hand over the report.
“The report is ready but I want him to look into some measures and options that FGV can undertake,” he told reporters after chairing a Finance Council meeting Wednesday.
On June 7, Idris was appointed to the job of ascertaining the facts and sorting out the problems that came to a head with the suspension of FGV CEO Datuk Zakaria Arshad and three other senior executives.
The four were ordered to go on leave pending an internal probe into business deals between Afghan company Safitex and FGV subsidiary Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd.
Zakaria hit back with allegations of corruption and power abuse, claiming his decisions to nix several “ridiculous” deals were vetoed by others. He was afterwards interviewed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for almost six hours.
MACC officers next visited FGV headquarters and seized boxes of company files and documents.
Zakaria had welcomed the appointment of a third party to conduct the internal audit, saying it would prevent issues of partiality.
Meanwhile, calls are mounting for a full-scale investigation into FGV’s company dealings, the most recent being from Umno Youth today.
Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun said the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bursa Malaysia should check whether FGV, which is the brainchild of the prime minister, had borke any law and to take action against the guilty parties if such was found. – June 14, 2017.
