PAS aims to shut down gambling outlets if it wins Pahang

PAS intends to shut down gambling establishments, including the Genting Highlands casinos, if it wins the state in the next general election.

Pahang PAS deputy commissioner Andansura Rabu said the move will be made if the law allows.

“We need to consider the totality of the law in this matter. If we have the authority at the state level, and we can do it, we will.

“For example, in Genting Highlands, the power might not be entirely ours. It could require a federal government decision, so we might not be able to shut it down.

“But within our jurisdiction, if we see anything that harms the people, we will take legal action,” he said today at a press conference during the PAS muktamar in Temerloh.

The party has banned gambling in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, the states it governs.

Andansura said it is important to eradicate all things that are harmful to society.

“All religions do not condone gambling, so the issue is not religious, it’s social. We prioritise the social welfare and wellbeing of the people.

“If gambling is harmful, we should close it, but we must follow the law and the constitution.

“If the people of Pahang oppose gambling and want it stopped, they need to support PAS.” – September 15, 2024.

  • Since Malaysia is going to be BANKRUPT anyway in 2040, the government, to save money, should seriously consider the amount paid to states be in proportion to the income they generate for the federal government.

    This then will force all states (including the SG4) to maximize income generation. Currently many take a "tidak apa" attitude, to the detriment of their residents and the nation.
