A MEMBER of the Pahang royal family has been accused of involvement in an assault on a road construction worker, according to a report by Malaysiakini.
The news portal quoted the victim, Alias Awang, 44, who claimed he was “stabbed and shot at” during an attack at a stable in Kuantan on June 6.
Alias lodged a police report two days after the incident, leading to the arrest of the main suspect and two others. They were remanded for seven days to assist with investigations before being released on police bail.
Alias stated that he had gone to the stable after receiving a phone call from an individual believed to be connected to the royal family.
“About 20 people, including the son of the Tengku (a royal title), attacked me.
“One of them stabbed me in the right thigh with a knife. The Tengku’s son shot at my leg but missed,” he was quoted as saying in the report.
Alias later discovered that the attack was allegedly linked to a plot of land in Rompin, where he was involved in constructing a road.
Kuantan district police chief, Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, confirmed to Malaysiakini that the three suspects had been released on police bail, while two others were freed after their statements were recorded.
“We have arrested the primary suspect in this case and are awaiting further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” he said.
However, he declined to comment on the alleged involvement of a member of the royal family in the incident. – September 5, 2024.
