HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King, said today that the country’s sovereignty and dignity will be compromised if military officers engage in corruption and abuse of power.
According to reports from Bernama, Sultan Ibrahim emphasised that, as the supreme leader of the armed forces, he will not tolerate any officer involved in corruption or power abuse, nor those who fail to fulfil their duties.
“A career as a military officer demands honesty, trust, unwavering sacrifice, and loyalty to defend the country’s sovereignty. No military officer should ever be involved in corrupt practices, particularly in relation to the procurement of government equipment and contracts,” His Majesty declared.
Speaking at the Royal Commissioning Parade and Presentation of Certificates to Armed Forces cadet officers at the Sungai Besi Camp, the King underscored the responsibility of all military officers to maintain discipline, especially when in uniform.
Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Armed Forces Commander General Mohammad Ab Rahman, Army Commander General Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, Acting Navy Commander Vice-Admiral Zulhelmy Ithnain, and Air Force Commander General Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan were also present at the ceremony.
“Maintain your integrity and never engage in dishonourable actions. Do not undermine the community’s trust in the military, and do not allow a single rotten apple to spoil the whole barrel,” His Majesty advised.
“The government must always prioritise honesty in matters involving the procurement of equipment and the construction of military facilities. The equipment purchased must be of high quality, meet the needs and requirements of the country’s defence, and not be influenced by suppliers or agents offering commissions,” said the King, adding that he would personally oversee all procurement processes.
Addressing the cadet officers commissioned today, the King reminded them that their journey was just beginning, with more training and courses ahead to become highly capable military officers.
“My advice is to be strong and persevere in your training and education to be able to face an increasingly challenging world and adapt to the latest defence technologies. If anyone is not willing to face the challenges of a military career, then please step out of line,” His Majesty said.
The 664 cadet officers commissioned today had completed a six-month training programme at their respective Armed Forces training academies. – August 17, 2024.
