POLICE are expected to establish the motive behind six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui’s kidnapping soon, said Johor police chief M. Kumar.

He said this followed the discovery of new evidence that led to the rearrest and remand of a suspect.

“We are now focusing on the sex toys, and child and sexual abuse pornographic materials recovered from the suspect’s home in Kulai.

“The suspect is under remand until August 10, and we have found new leads to help us in our probe.

“We hope that in a couple of days, we can establish the motive behind the victim’s abduction,” he told the press.

He said the police sought to establish if the suspect was a paedophile.

Kumar also stressed that despite the recovery of the sex toys, Leo was medically fit and did not show any sign that she was sexually abused during her confinement.

“The victim received a clean bill of health from a medical specialist and there is no reason for another medical check-up.

“Of course, any abducted victim will go through some form of traumatic element, but besides that, she is medically fine,” he said.

The suspect was rearrested on August 4 following the discovery of various sex toys, adult pornography, and child sexual abuse material at his residence in Kulai.

He is under remand pending further investigations under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code.

The 31-year-old suspect was earlier remanded for 13 days from July 23 until August 5 to assist in investigations under Section 365 of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 before being released on police bail.

The sole suspect is the fifth and last suspect to be arrested following the abduction of Albertine, who was reported missing at the Eco Galleria shopping centre in Iskandar Puteri on July 20.

She was found safe at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor on July 23.

Four other suspects, aged 28 to 55, who were earlier arrested and remanded have been released on police bail. – August 6, 2024.
