POLICE aim to complete the investigation into the murder of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin within six days, said Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The Selangor police chief said authorities will review all aspects of the case, including inconsistent statements of the suspects and witnesses.

“There are things we have to counter-check such as things not in line with our investigation.

“As the parents have been further remanded for six days, we will use the time to complete the investigation, including tying up all aspects of the investigations such as witnesses’ statements and physical evidence,” he was quoted telling reporters at a function in Kajang today.

He said since the arrest of Rayyan’s parents, police had recorded statements from the autistic child’s babysitter and two family members.

“It is premature to comment on the outcome (of the investigation). We will complete the investigation and refer the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor,” he said.

He noted that the investigation could be completed within six days or it could require more time depending on the outcome of the investigation.

He said the parents’ lawyers could meet their clients but it was at the police’s discretion.

“They can either meet the clients within the remand period or after.

“The police have the discretion to ascertain when (they can meet),” he said.

The magistrates’ court yesterday extended the remand order against Zayn’s parents for six more days until June 12 on Friday.

The boy’s parents were initially remanded for seven days, beginning June 1 until today, to assist in the murder case being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Last year on December 6, the body of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan was found lying in a stream close to his home at Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya, after being reported missing the day before.

The child is believed to have been murdered based on autopsy results which found self-defence wounds on his neck and body. – June 8, 2024.
