THE man who killed two cops in a Johor police station came from a family who kept themselves apart from the community that they believed was kafir (infidel), Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

“In our initial investigation, we established that they did not mix with the local community. We found that they viewed others as kafir and did not attend mosque prayers because of that,” he said,

“They firmly believed that they were the only true Muslims and that others are infidels, which led them to isolate themselves.

“That is why I say to not only focus on the perpetrator but the propagators. Calling others infidels leads to great destruction. One cannot arbitrarily call others infidels,” he said today in a press conference at the Home Ministry.

Last week, constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed in the Ulu Tiram police station after they were assailed by a man wielding a machete. Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, was shot.

Following the attack, police arrested five family members of the suspect, aged 19 to 62, along with two other people, to assist in the investigation into the case that has been classified as murder. – May 23, 2024.
