POLITICAL activist Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, was detained today for allegedly insulting Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

He was arrested over his statement – made in a short video on social media – pertaining to the audience granted by the king to the founder of KK Super Mart, which was embroiled in the Allah socks controversy.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain was reported by The Star as saying that Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Unit made the arrest earlier today.

“He was detained following a police report lodged by a 41-year-old trader who saw the video on social media on Monday (April 29).

“Papagomo was detained at his home in Setapak,” the IGP said.

Razarudin said police would make a remand application for Papagomo, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“He is being held at the Dang Wangi police headquarters,” he said. – April 30, 2024.
