A DAP minister’s aide will be named as the party’s candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, report Malaysiakini.

The news portal said Pang Sock Tao will be announced as the candidate later tonight.

Pang is an aide to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, the news portal reported, quoting sources.

The 31-year-old from Ampang, Selangor, previously worked as a news presenter for Ubah TV, a video channel owned by DAP.

Pakatan Harapan had shortlisted 10 names for the by-election, which included representatives from the Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is being held following the death of Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

The Election Commission has set May 11 as the polling day and this Saturday as the nomination day.

Meanwhile, News Straits Times reported that Perikatan Nasional will name Bersatu’s Khairul Azhari Saut for the by-election.

“Khairul is the Bersatu Hulu Selangor division chief, he is a local boy and a professional. He’s a double degree holder,” the PN source told the New Straits Times.

“Kuala Kubu Baharu is now a Malay-majority seat, around 51 per cent of voters are Malay. We believe that we can secure 70% of the Malay vote through Khairul.”

Earlier Gerakan was said to be eyeing the seat that it had contested in last year’s state polls. – April 24, 2024.
