PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said no one will be spared from facing action for playing up the race, religion, and royal issues (3R).

He specifically warned that no one should challenge the royal institution.

“I don’t care who you are, what your position is, or which party you are from.

“Don’t threaten us if action is taken (against you), more so on matters related to the 3R,” he told reporters in George Town today.

Anwar added that the royal institution was the pillar of the nation and the government will defend it.

“We will not compromise (in this matter),” Anwar said.

He was responding to a question about Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh’s two-hour detention in Kota Kinabalu earlier today.

Anwar however said he did not believe that Akmal was arrested, and only called in to assist in investigations.

Earlier this morning, the Kota Kinabalu police had escorted Akmal for questioning right after he had landed in the state capital.

“I was there for about two and a half hours. They took my statement and I gave the police my full cooperation.

“The entire process was done professionally,” he told reporters who were waiting outside the police station about 12.15pm.

He has recently made headlines after he called for the boycott of KK Mart convenience stores after one of them was found to be selling socks imprinted with the word “Allah”.

Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun said a statement was taken from Akmal on sedition related charges.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said in a statement that the police are investigating Akmal under sedition and communications and multimedia laws.

He added that the police had received two reports against Akmal. – April 5, 2024.
