DEPUTY Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has told those involved in the alleged “Dubai Move” to wait for the general election to change the federal government.

He told them to respect the mandate given to the unity government to administer the country.

“(The opposition should) wait for the GE if it wishes to change the current administration,” Zahid said in Putrajaya, today

Talk of a “Dubai Move” to topple the government surfaced last week following alleged discussions between opposition leaders and government representatives during a recent visit to the UAE.

The discussions were allegedly centred on identifying the backbenchers who could be persuaded to switch allegiance.

Zahid said efforts to topple the government are a waste of time because the administration of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has a two-thirds majority in parliament.

He said the government’s priority is the economic development of the country.

Zahid said that he was well aware of the Dubai Move and its participants. However, he did not reveal any names.

“We had information on them even before they landed (in Dubai),” he said. – January 2, 2024.
