Senior cop charged with murder over schoolboy’s road death

A SENIOR police officer was charged with murder today over the death of a 17-year-old schoolboy in a car chase in Ipoh, last Friday.

Nazri Abdul Razak, a deputy superintendent from the Kedah police contingent headquarters, nodded after the charge was read out before magistrate S. Punitha.

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie was killed when the car the officer was driving crashed into his motorcycle.

Zaharif died at the scene in Jalan Taman Jati in the 12.40pm incident. A post-mortem found that the SMK Jati student had died from chest and abdominal injuries.

Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri had said that the 44-year-old officer, who was arrested Friday, had passed a drug test after the crash. – December 18, 2023.
