A BANGLADESH national died after being slashed with a cleaver by a fellow countryman for allegedly disturbing him while he was sleeping at a unit of Flat Haji Manan, Kluang this morning.
Kluang police chief Bahrin Mohd Noh said during the incident, the victim, Mohammad Sobuj, 28, who had worked in a supermarket, was slashed in the head and neck.
Following the incident, five Bangladesh nationals aged between 25 and 30 were detained for questioning.
“At 10am, police received a call from a Bangladesh national that a man was in a pool of blood after suffering severe injuries and was unconscious.
“Initial investigations revealed that the incident happened when the fifth suspect who lives in the same room as the victim, admitted to slashing the victim with a cleaver – found in the room – since he was angry the victim had disturbed him while sleeping.
“The main suspect was detained at Jalan Nyior, opposite Taman Gunung Selatan Empat, at about 4.45pm while trying to escape after the incident,” he said, adding that the victim’s body was sent to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for a post-mortem.
All five suspects are expected to be remanded. The case is being investigated under section 302 of the penal code for murder. – Bernama, December 12, 2023.
