INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Razarudin Husain has pledged a transparent and fair investigation into a road crash between a senior cop and a student who died at the scene.
A senior police officer was driving the car that had collided with the student’s motorcycle.
“The police will not protect (the officer) or compromise on the case, even if it involves a senior police officer,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
Razarudin said he had directed the Ipoh district police chief, Perak police chief, and Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department director to closely oversee the investigation.
He said the case was filed under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.
“The police have recorded interviews with seven witnesses, including the students who were present and witnessed the incident,” he added.
Razarudin urged people who saw the crash or had information on the case to step forward to assist in the investigation.
In the incident yesterday afternoon, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, a Form Five student at SMK Jati in Ipoh, was killed being struck by a car driven by a senior police officer.
