THE Umno Supreme Council, in a meeting tonight, agreed to hold the state-level Unity Government Convention starting January 2024.
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said it was to improve understanding and cooperation between the parties that make up the unity government.
He said in conjunction with the first anniversary of the unity government, the supreme council also affirmed the party’s stance to continue to strengthen and defend the unity Government as ordered by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“Strengthening the principles of cooperation agreed upon between the parties that make up the unity government through the agreement which was signed especially regarding the position of Islam as the religion of the federation, the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers, the special position of the Malays and Bumiputeras and Bahasa Melayu as the official language.
He said tonight’s meeting also confirmed that all Umno MPs and assemblymen will continue to support the party’s position to back the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government.
“... (this) as decided by the Umno Supreme Council on November 24, 2022, and unanimously approved by Umno General Assembly delegates on January 14, 2023,” he said in a statement tonight.
To ensure that the Malay agenda continues to be strengthened, Asyraf said that Umno will hold a special colloquium in conjunction with the Bumiputera Economic Congress on January 6 to determine new economic opportunities for the Malays in this country. – Bernama, December 6, 2023.
