NASYID singer and composer Yasin Sulaiman has been acquitted of three drug charges by the Sessions Court today.

But judge Faiz Dziyauddin ordered the 47-year-old be sent to psychiatric facility Hospital Bahagia in Perak for treatment.

Faiz said after examining prosecution and defence testimonies, the court found the accused had committed the acts as stated in the three charges, but acquitted and discharged him as he was of unsound mental state, though aware of his actions.

Yasin, who composed and sang hit song “Mimpi Laila”, in March risked a death sentence after he was charged under section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in 214g of cannabis.

He was arrested on March 24. – November 29, 2023.
