Police inspector freed of drug charge


THE Seremban magistrates’ court today acquitted and discharged a police inspector over a charge of using drugs three years ago.

Magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh found the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt against Roslan Sam, 43.

In his judgment, Firdaus said the decision was made after the court examined the facts, exhibits along with testimonies of the accused and witnesseses.

“The court hereby finds the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. With this, the accused is released and acquitted,” he said.

Roslan, attached to the Special Branch of the Negri Sembilan headquarters, was relieved and thanked Firdaus after the decision.

Roslan was accused of possessing and using drugs – ketamine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxy and methylenedioxy methamphetamine.

The offence was allegedly committed at 3am at the Seremban narcotics office on September 27, 2020.

He was charged under section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine not exceeding RM50,000, a maximum imprisonment of two years.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur ’Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi prosecutor while the accused was represented by lawyers Haresh Mahadevan and Ramzani Idris.

During the trial in March 2021, seven witnesses testified.

Haresh said the defence managed to prove the police officer did not know the drinks served to him and other guests while on intelligence work, were spiked. – Bernama, November 6, 2023.
