THE Bersatu supreme council has unanimously rejected Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision not to defend his president’s post at the next party polls.

In a statement, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the supreme council did not accept Muhyiddin’s decision.

“The supreme council has unanimously decided to reject the suggestion by Muhyiddin not to defend his position as president in the party polls next year,” said Hamzah.

The statement came after an emergency meeting of the supreme council chaired by its deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Earlier today, the Bersatu co-founder and president had announced that he would not defend his post in next year’s party elections.

The Pagoh lawmaker said it was time for him to step down as the party had many capable leaders.

“It’s time to let go. I will not defend the president’s post for the next term.

“My final message (is), please take good care of the party. I pray that the transition process will be conducted in an orderly and harmonious manner,” he said at the end of his speech at the Bersatu national delegates conference in Shah Alam today. – November 24, 2023.
