Parliament to discuss impact of non-radioactive REE mining

THE Dewan Rakyat will today discuss the impact of non-radioactive rare earth mining and the separation of powers in the Finance Ministry (MOF).

According to the Order Paper on the parliament website Tan Kar Hing (Gopeng-PH) will inquire about the government’s plan to ensure the mining will not have any negative effect on the environment and community.

Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN) will be asking the economy minister about the separation of powers in the MOF, specifically about the development and operating expenditures.

Wong Chen (Subang-PH) will be asking the investment, trade and industry minister about the status of negotiations on a slew of free trade agreements and bilateral investment treaties. 

Also on the agenda is a question from Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (Kubang Pasu-PN) to the economy minister regarding the projects and initiatives in National Energy Transition Roadmap, launched on July 27, for Malaysia to reach the target of 70% renewable energy by 2050.

The sitting will also resume the debate on the Supply Bill 2024 at the committee stage. – Bernama, November 22, 2023.
