ABOUT 20 MYAirline employees today lodged a police report at the Sepang police headquarters over salary arrears.

They were accompanied by Malaysian Trades Union Congress secretary-general Kamarul Baharin Mansor.

Kamarul told the media the police report was lodged as MYAirline allegedly failed to pay wages and contribute to the Employees’ Provident Fund or the Social Security Organisation since May.

The suspension of cash-strapped MYAirline on October 12 raised questions among its 500 employees about their status in the company, which took its maiden flight on December 1 last year.

On October 16, MYAirline’s interim accountable executive and director Azharuddin A. Rahman reportedly said the company would prioritise solving two issues – refunding customers and paying staff wages.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof when contacted confirmed receiving the report and said the case would be referred to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Kuala Langat police headquarters.

Kamarul said the issue needed government intervention, especially from the Human Resources Ministry, to protect MYAirline employees’ welfare.

“Their lives were adversely affected and I hope the government will act immediately,” he said. – Bernama, October 31, 2023.
