THE Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will enforce its targeted subsidy agenda with constant supervision to stop leakages.
Acting minister Armizan Mohd Ali said his office will ensure that the RM10 million set aside for the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) to combat cartel practices and price gouging is effectively utilised.
“The ministry will also take proactive measures to ensure that the welfare of consumers is protected and the retail sector and domestic trade thrive,” said Armizan.
He said his ministry will allocate RM200 million to the Jualan Rahmah and Pasar Rahmah programmes.
He said this is to allow low- and middle-income earners to buy essential items at cheaper prices.
“The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry welcomes Budget 2024 which focuses on empowering the people.”
The ministry introduced the Payung Rahmah programme early this year to lower the cost of living for the poor.
Apart from food and groceries, the programme also offers clothing and eyewear at affordable prices.
Armizan said the government will spend RM12 million on intensifying the Buy Malaysian Goods campaign.
“The franchise strengthening programme to raise exports, which received an allocation of RM10 million, will be a platform for local franchisors to expand their businesses abroad,” he added.
Armizan said the welfare of rural residents will continue to be prioritised.
He said RM225 million was allocated to fund and expand existing programmes to new areas, including Abai Zone in Sandakan, Sabah, and Engkerabai in Mukah, Sarawak. – October 14, 2023.
