PAHANG Menteri Mesar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said he was only joking when he told Pelangai residents living elsewhere not to go home to vote in the by-election if they were not going to support Barisan Nasional, Malaysiakini reported.
Wan Rosdy, who is an Umno vice-president, made the comment at a BN event in Felda Chemomoi, Bentong, last night.
He told the settlers there to advise their children living elsewhere not to bother coming back for the polls if they were not going to vote for the BN candidate.
“Our children who live out of state, if they are not with us (BN), you should ask them to stay put.
“Stay on in Kolumpo (Kuala Lumpur). You’d only be a nuisance. Let us take care of our own backyard,” he said.
He later clarified that he was only joking to entertain the crowd.
“I was only kidding. What I meant was that we are hoping the out of state voters will come back and support us.
“The part where I said they should not come back if they do not support us was only a joke. Some people in the audience were sleepy and I wanted to wake them up.
“Don’t take it too seriously,” Wan Rosdy said.
The Pelangai state by-election on October 7 is a three-way fight among BN’ candidate Amizar Abu Adam, Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samat and Independent Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli. – September 28, 2023.
