POLICE are investigating DAP’s Ipoh Timor lawmaker Howard Lee over a TikTok video in which he allegedly used Quranic verses to urge Muslims to support the unity government.

Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the investigation was being handled by Bukit Aman as the report against Lee was lodged in Kuala Lumpur.

The Classified Crime Investigation Unit of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department will carry out the investigation.

“In Perak, we only received one report in relation to the matter and we refer to the original report made at Jalan Tun Razak (police station).

“This case is also being investigated by Bukit Aman,” Yusri was quoted as saying by Berita Harian today.

He said Perak police received another report lodged by civil society group Jalinan Bersatu Sahabat (Jabat) yesterday, requesting an investigation and action against Lee for allegedly insulting Islam.

Perak Jabat president Amiruddin Daud said the interpretation of any verses of the Quran should only be made by experts in the field, not non-Muslims. – September 22, 2023.
