SIBU Region 5 Marine Police yesterday detained a cargo ship suspected of carrying 40,000 litres of diesel worth RM160,000 without a permit from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

Sibu police chief Zulkipli Suhaili said today the ship’s four crew members were arrested during Op Taring Pensura as the ship was moored at a pontoon in Rantau Panjang.

“The crew comprised a local man and three foreign men aged between 26 and 44 who are from Indonesia and Myanmar,” he said.

He said the arrests were made under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 after the ship’s crew failed to produce a valid permit to carry the diesel.

He said the confiscated diesel, ship and equipment were estimated to be worth more than RM1 million, and that the case was handed over to the ministry’s Sibu division. – Bernama, September 21, 2023.
