CALLS for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to step down and shouts of “Reformati” (reform is dead) reverberated at the Perikatan Nasional-organised rally in the capital today.

The rally in front of the Sogo shopping complex lasted about an hour before the crowd dispersed.

Bersatu member Mohamad Shafiq Abdul Halim said he was let down by the Anwar-led administration for failing to uphold reform pledges.

“Laws should be the same for all and all Malaysians should be treated equally.

“It should not be lopsided,” Shafiq, who is said to be a researcher for Bersatu’s former information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan, said.

The rally held today is to protest the attorney-general’s decision to withdraw all 47 corruption charges in the graft trial of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Shafiq said the Anwar-led government must review the evidence in Zahid’s case and charge him again.

Among those seen in the protest were Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin and former Putrajaya Umno deputy chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

The group that gathered at the Masjid Jamek in Kampung Baru marched initially to the Dang Wangi police station before heading towards the Sogo shopping centre on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

As the crowd marched, chants of “Tolak Zahid!”, “Dakwa Zahid!”, and “Reformati!” rang out.

Police on site kept a close watch on the demonstrators.

Meanwhile, Tun Faisal, who is also Muafakat Nasional’s supreme council member, said he had lodged a police report to urge the government to charge Zahid again. – September 16, 2023.
