INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Razarudin Husain said the probes into former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for their alleged involvement in playing up race, religion and royalty (3R) issues have been completed and the investigation papers were referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
He said the documents involving Dr Mahathir were submitted on Tuesday while those on the Islamist party chief were sent this morning.
“We will wait for further instructions from the AGC regarding the cases,” he told reporters after attending an event in Cheras this morning.
The Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit D5 quizzed Dr Mahathir at Yayasan Albukhary on August 29 over 3R statements he allegedly made during a “Malay Proclamation” meeting recently.
Police also questioned former deputy foreign minister Marzuki Yahaya and Malay Proclamation secretariat chairman Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
Hadi was investigated after he allegedly disputed the Pardons Board’s authority during an August 26 ceramah at the Bakri PAS headquarters near Muar, Johor while campaigning for Perikatan Nasional candidates in the by-elections for the Pulai federal seat and Simpang Jeram seat.
Separately, the IGP said investigation papers on former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) lawyer, Jasmine Loo, was submitted to the AGC last month.
“She is being investigated under section 409 of the penal code for the offence of criminal breach of trust by an agent,” he said..
He added that Loo is still being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
On July 7, Loo, who is believed to have been part of fugitive businessman Jho Low’s inner circle and possessed information regarding 1MDB, surrendered herself at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
Yesterday, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki said the agency has been interrogating Loo since September 4. – September 7, 2023.
