PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is being investigated after his speech at the party’s headquarters in Bakri, Muar, was found to have elements of the 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues, police said.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said Hadi had questioned the powers of the Pardons Board, which is linked to the royal institution.

He said police had opened investigation papers on the speech the Marang MP had delivered when campaigning in the Simpang Jeram by-elections in Johor.

Earlier today, it was reported that police had contacted Hadi this morning to have his statement recorded over a speech made when campaigning in the Simpang Jeram by-elections.

Hadi’s political secretary, Syahir Sulaiman, said the Islamist party leader was willing to cooperate with the police.

“I can confirm that CID has contacted (Hadi) to have his statement recorded as part of the process to complete the investigations.

“CID officers contacted him to establish the most appropriate time for his statement to be recorded,” he said.

Shuhaily said there had already been 88 cases involving 3R issues so far this year. – August 28, 2023.
