PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will be called up by the police to provide his statement over a speech made during campaigning for the Simpang Jeram by-election in Johor. 

Hadi’s political secretary Syahir Sulaiman said police had contacted Hadi this morning, adding that the Islamist party leader was willing to cooperate. 

“Even before this, Hadi had already given his statement to Bukit Aman including surrendering the mobile phone of the administrator of his official Facebook account to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to assist in the investigations. 

“Hadi puts his full trust in the professionalism of the police and the MCMC in conducting their duties and the investigation,” said Syahir. 

In July, Hadi was investigated over remarks that allegedly touched on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues. 

The probe, carried out by the criminal investigation department classified investigation unit, centred around remarks allegedly made by Hadi that DAP was continuing a plan started by British colonists to destroy Malay and Bumiputera supremacy with the support of Malays who had forgotten their roots. 

In March, Hadi was investigated by the same unit over his claim that Perikatan Nasional was attempting to topple the government. – August 28, 2023.
