THE Shah Alam High Court has adjourned to April 11 the legal challenge filed by Bersih 2.0 to stop the tabling of the Election Commission’s re-delineation report.
The decision was made by justice Azimah Omar in chambers.
“Arguments were heard by both parties, including the argument whether it is academic, and the court has adjourned the matter to April 11 for decision,” said lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan.
Ambiga also said the court will also look into whether the election can proceed as a decision on the case has yet to be made.
“I’m assuming they (EC) will respect the court and not do anything that will undermine the court,” she added.
Acting Bersih chairman Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari said the motion on the re-delineation report should not have been tabled in Parliament yesterday.
“We hope the prime minister (Najib Razak) will not dissolve Parliament because there is an ongoing court case,” he said.
On March 21, 107 objectors, who represented more than 10,000 Selangor voters, filed an application to stop the tabling of EC’s re-delineation report.
Shahrul had said the each objector represented more than 100 voters, and are from 17 state and 11 parliamentary constituencies.
The Dewan Rakyat yesterday has accepted the motion to redraw the electoral boundaries. – March 29, 2018.
