PAHANG exco member Johari Harun is among those who died in a light plane crash on Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina this afternoon.
The first-term Pelangai assemblyman, who was the Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman, was one of eight passengers and crew killed in the crash.
Pahang assembly Speaker Sharkar Shamsudin confirmed his death in a Facebook post.
Two motorists on the Guthrie Highway were also killed.
The names of the victims have not been officially released.
The bodies have been taken to the Klang Hospital for a post-mortem.
In the last election, Johari retained the seat for Barisan Nasional with a thumping majority of 4,048 after polling 7,308 votes. The seat was previously held by former menteri besar Adnan Yaakob.
His rivals Kassim Samat from Perikatan Nasional polled 3,260 votes, Pakatan Harapan’s Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri (2,031) and Pejuang’s Isa Ahmad (65).
Pelangai, along with Bilut, Ketari and Sabai, fall within the Bentong parliamentary constituency. – August 17, 2023.
