A LIGHT aircraft with eight passengers that crashed on Guthrie Corridor Expressway near Bandar Elmina this afternoon made no emergency call, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
CAAM chief executive officer Norazman Mahmud said the condition of the plane’s six passengers and two crew have yet to be confirmed.
However, scenes on the ground as seen in pictures and videos shared online indicated several fatalities, including people who were travelling on the road.
Norazman said the craft was a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) with the registration number N28JV.
It was operated by Jetvalet Sdn Bhd, and had departed Langkawi International Airport at 2.08pm for Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
“The first contact made by the aircraft with the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower was at 2:47pm and landing clearance was given at 2:48pm.
“At 2:51pm, the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower observed smoke from the crash site but no mayday call was made by the aircraft,” Norazman said in a statement.

He said the Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre was mobilised for the search and rescue mission.
The safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry, said Norazman.
Reports said at least seven people are believed to have died in the crash.
The air force’s rescue team was the earliest to arrive at the scene near Persiaran Elmina. The fire was put out around 4.20pm.
A car and a motorcycle were also involved in the incident. – August 17, 2023.
