ROSMAH Mansor has once again applied for the temporary release of her passport to visit her daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib, who is expected to give birth in Singapore soon.

The wife of incarcerated former prime minister Najib Razak filed a notice of motion through Messrs Akberdin & Co at the Court of Appeal on August 11, stating her intention to make three trips – August 18 to 23; August 26 to September 6; and September 9 to October 31.

Rosmah, who is appealing her conviction and sentencing in the solar hybrid corruption case, said Nooryana is in her final trimester for her third child and is expected to give birth on August 28.

Nooryana, married to Kazakhstan national Danial Kessikbayev, live in Singapore.

Rosmah said she will return to Malaysia between visits to attend her ongoing trial.

“I will return on August 24 and August 25, as well as September 7 and September 8, to attend court proceedings.

“I was informed the prosecution did not have any objection to my application,” she said in her supporting affidavit.

The court will hear Rosmah’s application tomorrow.

In 2021, Rosmah applied for the release of her passport to visit her daughter, which the court granted. She had requested a one-month stay from October 22 to November 21.

But she failed to return to Malaysia and surrender her passport by the deadline, prompting senior lawyer the late Gopal Sri Ram to ask the Court of Appeal to issue an arrest warrant for Rosmah and revoke her bail.

Rosmah escaped arrest after her lawyer Jagjit Singh informed the court it was “an oversight” and that he would take full responsibility for her absence.

On September 1 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced Rosmah to 10 years in prison and a record RM970 million fine after she was found guilty of accepting bribes in relation to a RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project in 369 schools in Sarawak.

Rosmah has filed an appeal against her conviction and sentence. It is pending in the appellate court.

She has been released on RM2 million bail pending her appeal.

Rosmah also faces 12 charges of money laundering involving RM7,097,750 and five charges of failing to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board. – August 16, 2023.
