Rama says will explain to Anwar why he quit DAP

FORMER Penang deputy chief minister P. Ramasamy said he will explain to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim why he resigned from DAP.

“Of course I am ready and willing to meet the prime minister and explain what happened.

“As he said, he is my friend, and I will continue to support him as the prime minister. I will tell him what is wrong with DAP,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

He was responding to Anwar’s remarks earlier today about seeking the former’s reason for quitting DAP.

“Ramasamy is a friend. I will get his views (on his resignation). He understands several problems with the party (DAP),” said Anwar.

Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said he hopes Ramasamy will continue to serve the people.

“I hope he will continue to contribute to Madani,” said Anwar.

Ramasamy said his issue is with DAP, not with Anwar or PH.

“I will continue to support Anwar and Pakatan Harapan. I am not against them. I will support the unity government,” he said.

This morning, Ramasamy sent a letter of resignation to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

Ramasamy, who has been Perai assemblyman since 2008, is among the seven incumbents dropped as DAP candidates for the August 12 state polls.

Ramasamy is expected to campaign for two Independents in the polls.

The duo, Satees Muniandy and David Marshel, are known protégés of Ramasamy. They quit DAP and will contest in Perai and Bagan Dalam.

DAP is a senior PH component, which is part of a unity coalition at the federal level with Barisan Nasional and ruling blocs in Sabah and Sarawak. – August 10, 2023.
