FELDA Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chief executive officer Zakaria Arshad has welcomed Putrajaya’s appointment of Idris Jala to resolve the issues within the plantation company.

Zakaria said the appointment would prevent issues of partiality.

“The government has made a good move as some of the people in the internal audit are my staff. If my staff are asked to investigate my doings, they could be caught in a dilemma,” Zakaria told reporters after leaving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya this evening.

“It is a good move to appoint a third party to resolve FGV’s problems. I think it’s very fair.”

Zakaria was at the MACC to give a statement concerning business dealings between Afgan company Safitex and FGV subsidiary Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd.

He had arrived, armed with a bundle of files, shortly before 3pm.

The interview at MACC lasted some four hours.

Zakaria, FGV chief finance officer Ahmad Tafli Mohd Talha and two more senior employees were ordered to go on leave indefinitely pending an internal audit.

Putraya today moved to resolve the standoff at crisis-ridden Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd by appointing Idris Jala to establish what went wrong and who has to carry the can.

Idris is expected to play the role of honest broker to sort out the mess at the plantation company following the suspension of its chief executive officer, chief financial officer and two other senior members of the management team.

The appointment of Idris, formerly a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Pemandu Associated Sdn Bhd CEO, was announced in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office this evening. – June 7, 2017.
