AMANAH president Mohamad Sabu wants the members of the party to focus on the August 12 state elections and to stop speculating on who will replace the late Salahuddin Ayub in the federal cabinet.
In a statement, he said the appointment of a replacement for the domestic trade and costs of living minister post would be discussed after the state polls.
“Let’s not think about who will replace the late Salahuddin. After (the elections), we will discuss with the Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim regarding the replacement.
“In the meantime, do not allow ourselves to be incited by others over this issue,” the agriculture and food security minister said.
Salahuddin, 61, who was the Pulai MP and Simpang Jeram assemblyman, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star on Sunday following surgery for a brain haemorrhage.
Mohamad or Mat Sabu, as he is popularly known, said the Amanah leadership will handle matters such as the change in party leadership and its future, as provided in its rules and regulation.
Salahuddin was Amanah deputy president.
“I have personally given my commitment to focus on my responsibility at the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry as well as working with party members to run the election machinery.
“We have an important responsibility to ensure victory to all candidates from parties under the unity government, namely Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional,” he said in the statement posted in Facebook today. – July 26, 2023.
