KEDAH Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has opened a new TikTok account after alleging that the federal government has got his first account suspended.

Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director, opened the new account late last night under the username @sanusimdnor74.

The new account has garnered more than 80,000 followers since its opening some 12 hours ago.

Sanusi uploaded a video on the account about 3am with a photo of himself, coupled with the username of the account.

At a ceramah in Baling last night, Sanusi said Putrajaya had got his account blocked.

He said the move was to stop him from talking to the people in the run-up to the August 12 state elections.

He claimed that the TikTok accounts of several other PN leaders were also blocked.

Sanusi also took to Facebook to announce the opening of his new TikTok account.

He urged people to follow the correct account by giving the username, alleging that there are several accounts found in TikTok bearing his name.

Sanusi also shared another post on his Facebook page – a screenshot of a TikTok user apparently from Singapore – who claimed the menteri besar’s first account was still accessible there.

In the comment section, several others claiming to be from Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Australia and Sweden, said they could still access Sanusi’s first TikTok account.

Another user by the moniker of Azizul Aziz said using a virtual private network also allows Sanusi’s first TikTok account to be found and accessed.

“This means that the account is blocked by the Madani government,” he said.

However, Sanusi said he would only post the latest videos on his new account.

He had earlier said the blocking of his first account made him unable to communicate with his 5.2 million followers.

The Malaysian Insight has reached out to TikTok, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil for comment.

Fahmi has recently warned TikTok to work with the government to oversee content on the platform.

Sanusi is under police investigation for remarks touching on race, religion and royalty. – July 16, 2023.
