JUWAIRIYA Zulkifli, political secretary to caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, said Perikatan Nasional (PN) must apologise to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah after Kedah’s caretaker Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor allegedly insulted the Selangor ruler.

She branded Sanusi’s words rude and inappropriate.

“I urge PN to issue an apology immediately and no longer involve His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor in election campaigns and political speeches. The royal institution is above politics and should not be used to hurl baseless accusations to garner support.

“In fact, His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor had ordered on June 19 to remind political parties not to use religious, racial and other sensitive issues that could damage the harmony and unity of the people during the upcoming state election.

“The actions displayed by PN and Sanusi have no place in Selangor,” she said.

At a ceramah yesterday, Sanusi allegedly insulted the Selangor sultan’s choice of menteri besar.

In a viralled video, Sanusi could be seen comparing the Kedah sultan and his Selangor counterpart, whom he said had chosen a “lousy” menteri besar.

Earlier, several PKR members lodged police reports against Sanusi over his remarks.

Shah Alam PKR information chief Suryamuizzudin Kamarudin accused Sanusi of disregarding the authority and prerogative of the sultan in the appointment of the menteri besar.

Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also advised Sanusi to “repent” for his remarks.

“Politics is not a joke … I hope he will repent because not everything needs to be turned into campaign material, as it can be detrimental to himself,” said the Umno president.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has confirmed that the police are investigating Sanusi over his remarks. – July 13, 2023.
