CARETAKER Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is under investigation over his recent remarks allegedly insulting the Selangor sultan, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said.
Razarudin told the press police have opened an investigation paper, and said politicians should refrain from touching on 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues.
“Regarding the case of the Kedah menteri besar, we have opened an investigation paper under 3R yesterday,” he said in Bukit Aman.
At a ceramah yesterday, Sanusi allegedly insulted Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah about the latter’s menteri besar choice.
In his speech, whose video has gone viral, Sanusi compared the Kedah sultan and his Selangor counterpart, whom he alleged had chosen a “lousy” menteri besar.
The case against Sanusi is among the investigation papers sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) involving politicians, which include PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Earlier, several PKR members lodged a police report against Sanusi over remarks he allegedly made at a ceramah.
Shah Alam PKR information chief Suryamuizzudin Kamarudin accused Sanusi of disregarding the authority and prerogative of the sultan in the appointment of the menteri besar.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi advised Sanusi to “repent” for his remarks against the sultan.
“Politics is not a joke … I hope he will repent because not everything needs to be turned into campaign material, as it can be detrimental to himself,” said Zahid. – July 13, 2023.
